Marie A Bethmann, 97, of Bensenville concluded a long, happy life as she passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2020. She was born on July 24, 1922 the daughter of John and Marie Anna (Polek) Zellweger. She married the love of her life, Herman Bethmann on September 24, 1949 in Chicago. She worked as a cashier downtown, on State St, at F.W. Woolworth’s until 1955 when she had her first of two lovely daughters and she decided family comes first and became a full-time mother. Marie and Herman settled in the northwest side of Chicago (near Addison and Harlem) where they raised their family. Eventually her two daughters started families of their own extending the motherly tradition of the Bethmann family another generation. However, Herman tragically passed away in 1980 and eventually her daughters Susan and Christine made the loving decision to bring her where she belonged, among family. It was here in Bensenville she lived out her last years as the matriarch of the family who all follow her example of love and family. She will be missed but her influence will spread for many decades to come.
She is survived by her two adoring daughters: Susan (Jeffery) Dawson and Christine (Michael) Birchfield and her two loving granddaughters: Ashley Dawson and Maelyn Birchfield, as well as various other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her faithful husband: Herman Bethmann in 1980, her dear parents: John and Marie Anna Zellweger, and her late brother: John Zellweger.
