Johann Lorenz October 5, 1924 - November 19, 2020

Johann Lorenz, 96, of Elk Grove Village passed away peacefully on Thursday, November
19, 2020.
He was born in Vaska, Croatia on October 5, 1924. After the war, he was reunited with
the love of his life Juliana. They were married in 1949 in Neukirchen, Austria. Their
first son Eric was born a few years later. In 1956, they immigrated to America and
settled in Chicago. Their second son Manfred, was born two years later. They moved to
Harwood Heights in 1965 and their daughter Anita was born the following year. In 1977,
Johann and his family moved once again and spent 39 happy years in Itasca. In 2015,
Johann decided to sell the family home and he moved in with his son Eric and his wife
Joanne.
Johann worked for over 33 years as a blacksmith at Charles E. Larson & Sons in
Chicago. His strong work ethic, dedication and reliability made him a treasured
employee. He was also a proud member of the American Aid Society of German
Descendants for several decades. It was here where the entire Lorenz family met lifelong
friends and was able to celebrate their German heritage and culture.
Words cannot convey what a wonderful, kind, supportive and generous man Johann was.
He was a devoted husband and father who provided a safe, warm and loving home for his
wife and children. The most important thing in his life was his family, and they always
knew how much he loved them.
He is survived by his devoted children – sons: Eric (Joanne) Lorenz and Manfred (Nancy)
Lorenz; and daughter Anita (Steve) Stottrup; and six cherished grandchildren: Erica and
John Lorenz, Michael and Nicole Lorenz, Willem and Markus Stottrup; and beloved
sister Maria (Stefan) Schmiederkal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Aid Society of German
Descendants ( https://www.americanaidsocietyofgd.org/online-store ).  Due to the recent
COVID 19 pandemic services are being held privately.  Arrangements were made by
Geils Funeral Home.  For information, please call: (630) 766-3232.
