Edward Samuel Cablk, passed away on Thursday,
January 28, 2021 at Bridgeway Senior Living,
Bensenville, IL. He was born on January 20, 1927 to
the late Samuel Cablk and Anna (Toman) Cablk.
His parents were immigrants from Slovakia, and Ed
and his beloved sister Olga were raised on the
northwest side of Chicago, residing above their
parent’s grocery store. Ed graduated from Steinmetz
High School in 1945, followed by a brief stint in the
army in the waning days of WWII.
In the late Forties, Ed joined the US Postal Service as a
mail carrier where he remained for 37 years until his
retirement at age 57. He walked 12 miles each day
delivering mail, which likely contributed to his strong
heart. In 1958, he and his dear Donna Jean Stone
were married, celebrating their 62 nd anniversary in
Ed’s many interests included reading, history, sports,
movies, ships, beer, and dogs – especially dogs. He
was a skilled ice skater, hockey player and swimmer.
He had a unique, loving sense of humor – quiet,
subtle, with a touch of mischief. Anyone who knew
him liked him instantly and referred to him as “a truly
great guy”, which indeed he was.
Edward is Survived by his loving wife Donna Cablk;
three children, Douglas Cablk of Oak Park, IL, Linda
(John) Procopio of West Chicago, IL, Sandra (Rich)
Nadzieja of Scottsdale, AZ; two grandchildren, Stacy,
and Jason; four great grandchildren, Brianna, Jessica,
Joey, Carli; one nephew, Jeffery; and two nieces
Peggy and Laurie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Olga
Daggs and nephew Randy Daggs.
