Clifford A. Sell, Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, and long-time resident and former Treasurer of the Village of Bensenville, Illinois for over 30 years for 6 different Mayors, passed away on January 29, 2021, at the age of 94. Clifford was born in Wood Dale, Illinois in 1927. He was the oldest child of Charles and Lulu (nee Kolze) Sell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Elroy and Charles Sell, and by his sister, Vernette Dittmer.
In 1944, he volunteered to join the U.S. Army. When the war ended, he continued to serve in Japan, as a part of the U.S. occupation forces, for over a year, and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He initially attended the University of Michigan in 1944. When his service in the war concluded, he completed his degree at the University of Illinois, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce in 1950.
In 1952, he married his beloved wife, Gloria Arlene Walters. The loving couple recently celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary. Clifford worked as an accountant and financial controller for various companies during his career, including Ecko Products, O’Connor & Goldberg, Alberto Culver, Bienenfeld Glass Company, and Gerber Auto Body and Glass. His long life was that of a true public servant.
Clifford was a long-time memberof Faith Community (formerly Peace) Church in Bensenville, for which he served in various officer roles, including President, Board member and Superintendent of the Children’s education program. He was also a member and distinguished Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Bensenville. Following his retirement from corporate life, he formed his own tax return preparation and financial planning business, assisting many community families and friends to achieve their goals for over 20 years.
Clifford is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, their three children – Cliff, Jr. (Doug Koehler), Thomas (Janet), and Robert (Maureen), and three grandchildren, David, Jessica and Benjamin, and many nieces and nephews. He was a gentle, kind and loving human being who made this world a better place, simply by being here.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Geils Funeral Home, 180 S York Rd, Bensenville, IL 60106 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held the following day, Friday, February 5, 2021 also at Geils Funeral Home at 10:30 AM.
