Captain Kenneth Wayne Anderson, 76, died at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL on April 23, 2018. A Vietnam Veteran, he served three tours between 1965 and 1972 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal among other honors.
Ken is survived by his wife Eugenia ‘Gene’ of Bensenville IL; son, Mark (Isabel) Anderson; daughters, Denise Beck (Bob) Cat and Rebecca Anderson (Edward) Paul; brothers, Cecil and Larry Anderson; sister, Mary Anderson-Kaup; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernice (nee Aaron) and Garland Anderson of Hope, AR and his sons, Michael T. Beck and Thomas A. Anderson.
After graduation from high school in Hope, AR Ken and his brothers enlisted in the Army. He served a total of 22 years, went through Officers Candidate School, and wore his green beret as a proud member of the Special Forces and retiring with the rank of Captain after traveling throughout the US and around the world. Following his time in Vietnam, he continued his military career in the Army Reserve, where he attended jump school and made over 100 jumps. He revisited Vietnam with other Veterans and found the experience very cathartic.
Ken was born on May 10, 1941 in Eagleton, AR at home. He married Eugenia ‘Gene’ Beck on May 15, 1976. After retiring from the Army Reserve he graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in History. He worked as a Service Manager at O’Hare Honda and retired as a Safety Training Manager with United Rentals. He was very active in local politics and was elected to serve as Bensenville Park District Commissioner for 26 years. He was also President of the Bensenville Lions Club, member of VFW Post 2149, where he was a popular Bingo caller for the Lions, a member of American Legion Post 1205 and a member of Chapter 37 of the Special Forces Association. He was an avid golfer, bowler and excellent dancer.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10 AM until 3 PM at Geils Funeral Home, 260 W. Irving Park Road, Wood Dale IL ending with a prayer service from Ken’s brother, Pastor Cecil Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either Special Forces Association Chapter 37, 1158 Bayside Road, Elgin IL 60123 or the Michael J.
